What to Expect On Your First Visit

On your first visit to therapy you may feel anxious or nervous. These feelings are normal. We are here to guide you safely through the process. Our website contains most of the paper work that you will need to complete on your first visit. Filling it out in advance provides you a way to complete it at your own pace.

During your initial visit your therapist will collect information regarding the reason for treatment. Some of the topics may be sensitive in nature. If you feel that you are not ready to talk about a particular topic at this time please inform your therapist. This topic can be discussed at a time when you feel more comfortable. If there is a minor child involved the therapist may interview the guardian/parent alone and then speak with the child. Please review our limits of confidentiality. We want to be sure that you are comfortable and understand our policies regarding privacy. If any questions arise please be sure to inform your therapist or office staff.

During your first visit you and your therapist will also develop a treatment plan. This plan is a road map of your treatment. It describes your goals and how you and your therapist will accomplish each goal. Although this is part of the initial session, you and your therapist will review your progress as you continue through the sessions. If there is an additional goal that you would like to work on, feel free to discuss your addition with your therapist. Please don’t hesitate to ask your therapist any questions you may have regarding your treatment. Lastly, be sure to bring your insurance information to your initial session. This includes your insurance card with an EAP reference number if applicable.

Care

We are committed to providing our clients with continuity of care.  When you have realized the goals in your treatment plan, or when you decide to terminate therapy, your therapist will help to link you with other services that may continue to help and be a benefit to you.  While we have our own team of skilled mental health professionals, we also work closely with external professionals (to include your current primary care doctor or other specialist) to ensure that you are receiving the best quality of care.
